Frequently Asked Questions

What is parenting coaching?

Parenting coaching is a collaborative, strengths-based process that helps parents better understand their children, strengthen relationships, and navigate challenges with greater confidence. Unlike therapy, parenting coaching focuses on practical strategies, skill-building, and support for current parenting concerns.

My approach is attachment-based, neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and family-centered, helping families create more connection and less conflict.

How is parenting coaching different from therapy?

Therapy often focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, processing past experiences, or addressing clinical concerns.

Parent coaching focuses on:

  • Understanding your child's behavior through a relational lens

  • Building practical parenting tools and strategies

  • Strengthening parent-child relationships

  • Navigating everyday challenges at home, school, and in the community

  • Supporting family communication and connection

Parenting coaching is not a substitute for mental health treatment, but it can complement therapy and other services.

Who do you work with?

I work with parents and caregivers of children and teens of all ages.

Many of the families I support have children who are:

  • ADHD

  • Autistic

  • PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance/Pervasive Drive for Autonomy)

  • Highly sensitive

  • Twice-exceptional (2e)

  • Gifted

  • Experiencing school-related challenges

  • Struggling with emotional regulation

I also work with families seeking more connection, communication, and confidence in their parenting.

What does "neurodiversity-affirming" mean?

A neurodiversity-affirming approach recognizes that neurological differences such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other forms of neurodivergence are natural variations of the human experience—not deficits to be fixed.

Rather than focusing on compliance or behavior modification, we work toward understanding needs, building connection, supporting regulation, and creating environments where children can thrive.

Do you work with PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance)?

Yes.

I have experience supporting families of children and teens with PDA profiles. Together, we explore ways to reduce power struggles, lower nervous system activation, strengthen trust, and create more collaborative approaches to daily life.

My work integrates attachment theory, psychoneurobiology, and neurodiversity-affirming practices to help families better understand what is driving behavior beneath the surface.

What kinds of challenges can parenting coaching help with?

Parenting coaching can help with:

  • Frequent conflict and power struggles

  • Emotional outbursts and meltdowns

  • School refusal

  • PDA-related challenges

  • ADHD-related challenges

  • Sibling conflict

  • Transitions and life changes

  • Parent-child communication

  • Building routines and structure

  • Co-parenting concerns

  • Supporting emotional regulation

  • Strengthening family relationships

What is your coaching approach?

My coaching is grounded in:

  • Attachment Theory

  • Interpersonal Neurobiology

  • Trauma-Informed Care

  • Neurodiversity-Affirming Practices

  • Family Systems Understanding

  • The CALM Method

Together, we focus on understanding what behavior is communicating, strengthening connection, and creating sustainable solutions that work for your unique family.

What is the CALM Method?

CALM is a relationship-centered framework that helps parents maintain connection during challenging moments.

CALM stands for:

Connect – Prioritize relationship and safety.

Affect (Match & Mirror) – Meet your child where they are emotionally.

Listen – Seek to understand the needs beneath behavior.

Mirror Back – Reflect understanding and build trust.

The goal is not perfect parenting—it is creating stronger relationships and more opportunities for cooperation and connection.

Do you support LGBTQIA+ families?

Absolutely.

I am committed to providing affirming, inclusive support for LGBTQIA+ parents, caregivers, children, and teens. Every family deserves to feel respected, understood, and supported.

What happens during a coaching session?

Sessions are tailored to your family's needs and may include:

  • Discussing current challenges

  • Exploring what's happening beneath behaviors

  • Learning practical strategies

  • Creating action steps

  • Practicing communication tools

  • Reviewing successes and challenges since the last session

Parents often leave sessions with a clearer understanding of their child's needs and concrete next steps to try at home.

Do both parents need to attend?

No.

One parent can participate, or both parents/caregivers can attend together. Families often find value in having all caregivers involved, but it is not required.

Are sessions virtual or in person?

Sessions are currently offered virtually, allowing families throughout California and beyond to access support from the comfort of their homes.

How long are coaching sessions?

Most coaching sessions are 50–60 minutes.

Longer sessions, workshops, and group programs may also be available depending on your family's needs.

How many sessions will I need?

Every family is different.

Some parents benefit from just a few sessions focused on a specific challenge, while others appreciate ongoing support as they navigate larger family transitions or neurodivergent parenting journeys.

We can discuss what level of support feels right for you.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes.

I offer a complimentary consultation so we can discuss your family's needs, answer questions, and determine whether coaching feels like a good fit.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple:

  1. Schedule a free consultation.

  2. Complete the intake paperwork.
